Freelance Mainframe Engineer (Remote, 6-12 Months + Renewals)
We are currently recruiting for a Mainframe Engineer to join a global banking client based in Germany. This is a fully remote working position open to candidates located anywhere in the EU.
Job Overview:
As a Mainframe Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering across the technology delivery lifecycle, including inception, construction, testing, release, and ongoing management of a product or service. This role requires a diverse skill set across front-end development, security, testing, and operational support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize your skills in IBM Mainframe, DB2, and Cobol (including German code) to support end-to-end delivery and run lifecycle.
- Engage in software development, testing, operational support, and migration/demise activities.
- Take end-to-end accountability for products or services, identifying and developing appropriate technology solutions.
- Collaborate with engineers, architects, and business stakeholders to steer product or service direction.
- Establish a digital environment and automate processes to ensure high-quality code and data.
- Create technical test plans and records, including unit and integration tests, within automated test environments.
- Provide support to DevOps/Technology teams across all stages of product/service release/change.
- Work with Ops, Dev, and Test Engineers to address and resolve operational issues.
- Support in identifying and resolving incidents associated with IT services.
- Ensure service resilience, sustainability, and recovery time objectives.
- Stay updated on current tools, technologies, and regulations related to cyber security, data privacy, and data residency.
Skills and Experience:
- Expertise in IBM Mainframe, DB2, Cobol.
- Desirable skills: DataStage, Java, C#, Lotus Notes.
- Experience with end-to-end lifecycle management and agile methodologies.
- Strong customer focus and understanding of end-to-end journeys.
- Excellent domain knowledge and ability to move between tasks according to demand.
- Proficiency in German (B2+ level) is required (MANDATORY)
