If you’re responsible for the key hires within your IT teams, staying on top of the latest hiring trends in the industry is crucial. With technology rapidly evolving, it's important to understand how these changes are impacting the way companies hire IT professionals. In this blog post, we'll explore five key hiring trends that are shaping the IT industry in 2024.

AI Enhanced Hiring Experiences

AI has evolved dramatically over the last year and recruitment agencies are using this to their advantage to improve candidate experience. AI-powered tools such as chatbots are becoming more popular and can streamline the initial screening of potential candidates. Outreach tools can help busy recruiters working multiple roles and help with day-to-day tasks such as scheduling and providing updates. With big time and money savings on the line, its no wonder we’re seeing an increase of AI within the recruitment field.

Emphasis on Skill-based Hiring

Skills-based hiring means ranking candidates' skills over their past work experience or qualifications. By removing unnecessary boundaries such as years of experience, the talent pool is hugely widened making the placement of a high-quality candidate more likely. Writing job descriptions with this in mind will increase the chances of finding the best skilled people for your role.

Importance of Diversity and Inclusion

It is widely recognised that a diverse workforce encourages innovation and creativity, as team members work alongside people with different life experiences and perspectives. Companies that prioritise this in their recruitment strategies are maximising their chances of having a diverse workforce. It’s not just about the hiring processes, companies are doing more to create inclusive workplaces with a culture that makes employees feel valued and appreciated.

Remote Working

Remote Working is still very much on trend and we don’t foresee a change to this anytime soon. We recently posted about worker burnout and recognise that remote working can increase the risk as people struggle to switch off at the end of the day. We recommend putting realistic barriers in place, to not blur the lines of home and work. There are huge benefits to remote working such as more flexible hours and the ability to work from anywhere. If you’re open to remote working, make this is clearly advertised and your expectations are discussed with any interviewees.

Employer Branding as a Competitive Edge

In a highly competitive job market, employer branding is becoming essential for companies to stand out. As job seekers become more discerning, they are looking for employers who share their values and provide a satisfying work environment. Employers who can effectively communicate their company culture and values will have a distinct advantage in the hiring process. Be sure your company is making the most of this through your social media platforms.

By understanding and embracing these trends, businesses can position themselves to attract the right people to their teams. If you're looking for expert guidance on how to navigate these trends and optimise your hiring strategies, don't hesitate to contact one of our consultants.
